PLA is the most common 3D printed material because of the consistent good looking prints it produces.

Here are the main benefits of printing with this material and common PLA filament properties:

  • Hard material, its stiffer than PETG

  • Made from biodegradable materials

  • High Quality surface finish

  • Low printing temperature, allows for faster prints lowering the cost to you and allows higher surface detail.

  • Low cost, PLA is inexpensive to produce and that reflects in the quote to you.

  • Low glass transition temperature, leaving PLA prints in your car or balcony on a hot summer day can have negative affects on the lifespan of your print

  • Colours, comes in almost any colour imaginable

  • Odourless when printing and after printing

  • We also keep Wood PLA in stock frequently. Wood PLA is typically made with 30% pine, which offers a nice look, texture, and smell however sacrifices some detailing.​​

In short, this is a really tough material, it's extremely durable.

Here are the main benefits to printing with this material and common PETG filament properties:

  • Very durable, it’s more flexible than PLA , but also a little softer. You’d have a hard job breaking it in half, so if an ‘unbreakable’ case or enclosure is what you need, PETG trumps pretty much everything 

  • It has very low shrinkage, and therefore no warping. Ideal for printing big stuff.

  • PETG is also very strong, it’s not brittle but can be scratched.

  • PETG plastic makes a terrible support structure, because it sticks so well. But because it sticks so well, layer adhesion is fantastic, so prints come out strong.

  • It has a great chemical resistance, along with alkali, acid and water resistance.

  • Odourless when printing and after printing

ABS FILAMENT

When it comes to temperature resistance, ABS is your choice. Although temperature resistance is its strongest feature, there are several others listed below:

  • Similar rigidity to PLA

  • ABS is a strong material, it may not be as strong as PETG but it is much stronger then PLA

  • ABS has similar surface finish quality to PLA, however since it melts when in contact with alcohol you can achieve some gorgeous prints by completing an acetone smoothing process

  • Printing ABS does release to

  • Since ABS shrinks significantly more as it cools compared to PLA and PETG you run the risk of layer separation and warping from the print bed. This makes ABS less ideal for extra large parts.

  • Longer part lifespan

  • More damaging for the environment compared to PLA and PETG

  • Great for machine and functional parts due to its durability

  • ABS is not food safe
